It looks like the answer to whether Jean-Eric Vergne will have a race seat next year may well be yes. The former Toro Rosso driver and recently crowned Formula E champion has let slip that he’s been contacted by an F1 team in connection with a 2019 race seat.
The former Red Bull junior driver who raced for the team from 2012 to 2014 hasn’t been on the grid since then, but he has found great success away from F1 and won the FE with Techeetah. He claimed provisional victory in the Le Mans 24 LMP2 class until a technical infringement stripped his team of the title.
Now, Vergne has gone on the record to say that he may well be making a comeback to F1 and has been offered a race seat for the 2019 season.

In late 2013, Vergne suffered a major blow when his teammate Daniel Ricciardo was picked over him to replace Mark Webber the following season. He only lasted one more season with Toro Rosso before he was dropped at the end of 2014. Ricciardo went on to wow the world with seven Grand Prix victories to date, leaving Vergne in the dust.
Despite Vergne being passed over and perhaps wondering what could have been, the driver has said that he isn’t bitter and that he has no regrets about his F1 career. He also insists that he would consider a return, and if he is offered a seat and accepts it, this will become reality.
